Melissa Pandika is a San Francisco Bay Area-based writer and journalist passionate about science, health, social justice, and their intersection. She is a staff writer for Mic's Wellbeing vertical, which covers food, health, career, and lifestyle. She also freelances for numerous publications. Her work has appeared in Discover, New York Magazine's The Cut, Bon Appétit's Healthyish, VICE, and the Los Angeles Times, among other outlets. Before making the leap to writing, she investigated how aggressive brain tumors evade drugs that block the growth of their blood vessels as a research associate at the University of California, San Francisco. She holds a B.A. in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.A. in communications from the Stanford Graduate School of Journalism. She is a member of the Writers Grotto and is at work on a memoir.
